This three-hour English walk starts at the Klárov end of Malá Strana, by the Malostranská metro exit, and follows Prague's twentieth century from September 1938 through to the Velvet Revolution of November 1989. The route takes in the Winged Lion Memorial, the Memorial of the Second Resistance Movement and the Pinkas Synagogue memorial, with stops that reach as far as Wenceslas Square, Národní Street and the Dancing House.
The storytelling covers Operation Anthropoid and the paratroopers' last stand in the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Holocaust and the fate of the city's Jewish community, the 1948 coup, Prague Spring, the 1968 Soviet invasion and Jan Palach's self-immolation. The walk ends with the fall of communism, including the story of the student whose death helped spark the Velvet Revolution.
The walk is free to reserve on GuruWalk, and guests pay the guide what they think the walk was worth at the end. Group size is capped at 30, and bookings for groups larger than 6 adults are not accepted.
